Hello, again
Why I'm starting a blog for the third time, and what I'm going to do differently.
This is the third time I've started a blog. The first two died the same way: I spent a weekend on the design, wrote one post about the design, and never opened the repo again.
So this time the rule is simple: the writing has to be easier than the tinkering. Every post
is a Markdown file in content/blog.
There is no CMS, no admin panel, and no step between "I had a thought" and "the thought is on the internet" other than a commit.
What I want to write about
- Bugs that took embarrassingly long to find, and what the real cause turned out to be
- Tools I've read the source of, and what surprised me in there
- The unglamorous parts of shipping: migrations, backfills, on-call, cost
A note on unfinished thoughts
Posts here are notes, not essays. If something is half-formed I'd rather publish it half-formed than let it sit in drafts for a year.
How this is built
Fumadocs on top of Next.js. It gives me MDX with real components and a search index, and it stays out of the way the rest of the time.
That's the whole setup. Now I have no excuse.
